A Magical Fall Micro Wedding at Columbia Gorge Hotel | Corky & Courtney
Corky and Courtney’s late fall wedding at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and Spa was a total dream from start to finish. As an Oregon wedding photographer, I’m constantly in awe of the variety of landscapes and romantic venues this region has to offer—and this one is easily a favorite. Perched above the Columbia River in Hood River, the hotel is a stunning spot for a micro wedding in Oregon, offering rich history, timeless charm, and jaw-dropping views of the Columbia River Gorge.
On this particular day, the air was crisp, the sky was clear, and the late afternoon sun lit up the fall colors in the most magical way. That golden light spilling through the trees? Absolutely chef’s kiss. We took full advantage of it for their couple’s portraits before heading into the most heartfelt and intimate ceremony with just their parents and siblings.
This wedding was extra special for me because a few years ago, I had the honor of photographing Corky’s sister’s wedding. Getting to reconnect with this sweet family and document another milestone was one of those full-circle moments that make this job so deeply rewarding. It’s always such a gift to be invited back into a family’s story.
The Columbia Gorge Hotel is a gem for small weddings like this. Originally built in 1921, it has all the grandeur of a historic estate, complete with sweeping staircases, antique details, and lush gardens. The ballroom—with its vintage oil paintings and warm tones—makes for such a beautiful indoor backdrop if the weather turns, or if you just want that timeless, elegant vibe for your portraits. I always recommend this venue to couples who want a balance of romance, intimacy, and that classic Pacific Northwest wedding feel.
After the portraits, the couple exchanged vows in a sweet, simple ceremony surrounded by the people closest to them. The whole day had this cozy, joyful energy—quiet and meaningful, just how they envisioned it. And afterward, everyone got to celebrate right there at the hotel with dinner, drinks, and all the comforts of on-site lodging.
If you're dreaming of a Columbia Gorge wedding that blends natural beauty with old-world charm, this venue is seriously worth checking out. It’s especially perfect for couples planning a Portland micro wedding or an intimate destination wedding in Oregon—Hood River is only about an hour from Portland, making it a scenic but accessible location for out-of-town guests.
Getting to photograph Corky and Courtney’s wedding reminded me of all the reasons I love what I do: the light, the love, the people, the in-between moments. I’m so grateful they trusted me to capture this chapter of their love story.
