Elopements

What’s an Elopement?

Eloping isn’t about secretly running off in secret anymore . These days, an elopement is an intentional, intimate way to get married—just the two of you, or with a few of your favorite people by your side. It’s a celebration that’s free from pressure and full of meaning.

Eloping means crafting a day that feels like you—whether that’s exchanging vows on a mountaintop at sunrise, exploring the mossy trails of the Pacific Northwest, or sharing a quiet first dance in the woods. It’s your love story, your way.

Why Eloping can be less stressful

Let’s be honest—wedding planning can be overwhelming. Guest lists, seating charts, family opinions… it adds up fast. Eloping simplifies all of that. Here's why couples love the slower pace and deep connection of an elopement day:

-You call the shots. There are no expectations to meet, timelines to race against, or traditions you have to follow.

-Budget-friendly. Spend your money on what really matters to you—like travel, photography, or a meaningful experience.

-No performance pressure. You can be fully present with your partner without an audience.

-Flexibility. Want to chase the light, wait for fog to roll in, or grab tacos after your vows? You totally can.

-Focus on your love. It’s all about the connection—not the chaos.

What Can You Do on Your Elopement Day?

Your elopement can be as adventurous or relaxed as you want. Think of it as your dream date—only with vows, rings, and maybe a little cake in your backpack. Some ideas couples have loved:

  • Hike to a scenic overlook for your vows

  • Explore a national park and take photos along the way

  • Share a quiet picnic or charcuterie board in a scenic spot

  • Read letters from loved ones who could not attend after your ceremony

  • Pop champagne or cut a mini cake in a forest clearing

  • Watch the sunset from a mountaintop

  • Dance under the stars (or with a Bluetooth speaker at the trailhead)

  • Grab coffee or a favorite meal from a local spot afterward

You don’t need a strict schedule—just a little intention and a lot of heart.

How to Elope in Oregon or Washington

Planning an elopement in the Pacific Northwest? Here’s what you need to know to keep things simple and stress-free:

Permits

Most national parks, state parks, and scenic areas require a special use permit for elopements. I’ll help you figure out what you need for your location.

Marriage Licenses

Oregon: Can apply in any county. 3-day waiting period. Valid for 60 days.

Washington: Apply online or in-person. 3-day waiting period. Valid for 60 days.

Some counties allow virtual applications—reach out early to confirm.

Witnesses

Oregon and Washington both require two witnesses. Don’t have any? I’m happy to sign as one and we can always ask a friendly hiker to help out!

Best Time of Year

Summer: Long daylight, accessible mountain locations, but more crowds.

Fall: Beautiful foliage, crisp air, fewer tourists.

Winter: Snowy wonderlands in the mountains or moody beach vibes, typically no crowds.

Spring: Waterfalls flowing, wildflowers blooming—weather is a little more unpredictable but stunning and generally crowd free.

Dog-Friendly Tip

Many locations allow dogs on leash—but always double-check park regulations if you’re bringing your pup!

What It’s Like to Work With Me

When you book me, you’re getting more than a photographer—you’re getting a calm presence, a timeline wizard, a location scout, and someone who will hype you up and help you feel at ease the whole way through.

My style is a mix of photojournalism and art—I let the day unfold naturally while looking for the light, emotion, and beautiful in-between moments. I’ll gently guide you when needed but never overpose or interrupt the vibe.

Whether we’re climbing a mountain, wandering through ferns, or dodging tide pools, I’m right there with you—creating photos that feel like you.

Quick Elopement Tips

A few things I always tell my couples:

-Pack layers. Even in summer, the PNW can get chilly.

-Footwear matters. Bring comfy shoes, even if you’re wearing something fancy for photos.

-Snack and hydrate. You’ll thank yourself later.

-Embrace the weather. Rain, fog, or wind? It’s all part of the magic.

-Give yourself buffer time. You’ll want to breathe, enjoy the moment, and not rush through the day.

-Bring a headlamp or flashlight if you’ll be out near sunset.

-Trust your gut. This day is about you two—make it feel right.

 FAQs *

  • An elopement is an intentionally small, intimate wedding experience—usually with just the couple or a few guests. It’s focused on your love story, without the pressure of traditional wedding expectations. It can be adventurous, cozy, laid-back, or whatever feels most you.

  • Most couples book between 4–8 hours. Think about your vision: do you want getting ready photos, a first look, a scenic hike, a picnic, golden hour portraits, or a lantern send-off? I’ll help you build a custom timeline that fits everything you’re dreaming of.

  • Absolutely! While elopements are smaller by nature, you can include close friends or family—just be mindful of the location. Some spots (like the Hoh Rainforest trails) are best for very small groups, but others (like riverbanks or open meadows) can accommodate more.

  • Many national and state parks require a special use permit for ceremonies and professional photography. Don’t stress—I’ll guide you through what’s needed based on your chosen location and even help you apply if needed.

  • It’s the PNW—rain and moody skies are part of the charm! I always come prepared with clear umbrellas and backup ideas. Some of my favorite images have been taken in fog, mist, or drizzle. We'll lean into whatever the day brings and make it magical.

  • Heck yes! As long as the location allows it, I’m all for four-legged guests. Just bring a leash, water, and a designated “dog person” if you’re including them in the ceremony.

  • You’ll need a marriage license from the state you’re eloping in (Washington or Oregon). I’ll walk you through the timing and process to make sure it’s all official. You’ll also need an officiant and two witnesses—I'm happy to help coordinate both! P.S. I’m also ordained if you are ok with reading your own vows instead of an official ceremony.

  • Go for it! Many couples choose to elope now and celebrate with friends and family later. You can have the best of both worlds—a quiet, meaningful ceremony and a reception down the road at a nearby resteraunt.

  • Yes, yes, and YES.
Location scouting is one of my favorite parts. I’ll find something epic, private, and perfect for your day—whether it’s mossy rainforest trails, cliffside coastlines, or alpine meadows.

  • Way more than just photos.
You’ll get timeline help, permit guidance, and a curated gallery filled with emotion and artistry. Unlimited phone or zoom consults, local vendor recs and more! From big moments to small details, I’ll document your story with care.
